Scent Striker®, U.S. patent number 10,631,527, was conceived trolling the waters of Southeast Alaska. Scent Striker® was field-tested over several seasons to ensure its effectiveness. Scent Striker® is manufactured in Alaska and shipped directly to customers from its operations based in Juneau. Appanage Fishing is a family-owned business.
Our Start
Appanage Fishing started on the Alaska fishing grounds when we began looking for a method to keep scent oils on salmon gear for extended periods. We wanted a product that held a copious amount of scent, durable during a prolonged troll, easily strung on a line or leader, could be placed in combination with any other action lure, and lasted bite after bite. As our local fishing supply store did not have what we were looking for, we went to the garage and invented Scent Striker®.
Scent Striker’s “Why”
The idea of scent as an attractant to catch fish has been around for millennia. Science adds to our traditional understanding and demonstrates fish have highly defined odorant detection systems that are instrumental in helping them find food. Salmonid’s forebrain, or its Olfactory Lobe, is understood through science to be devoted to the perception of a smell. Knowing that the fish we target has dedicated odor-sensing brainpower, it makes sense that scent is placed into all our bait setups.
Appanage Fishing developed Scent Striker® so that the fishing enthusiast could add smell to any rigging. The very first prototype was trolled under a hoochie skirt and landed a King. A subsequent field test added three pink Scent Striker® Originals between a Brad’s Super Bait Cut Plug and a terminal treble hook. During an early morning troll, this rig, using a Pro-Cure product, enticed a limit of six Silvers to bite within a few hours.
