https://youtu.be/_3xL4s_2PB4Scent Striker founder, Don Haberger, demonstrates how to rig Brad's Cut Plug the Scent Striker way, adding that scent trail where you need it most at your hook. The Brad's Cut Plug rig, the Scent Striker way, is an excellent salmon trolling rig.
MATERIALS LIST
The materials list for this rig is six items. They are:
  • Forty-pound fluorocarbon monofilament leader about five to six feet in length.
  • One treble hook. We demonstrate with a size 1 Gamakatsu round bend hook.
  • Scent Striker Originals in fluorescent chartreuse.
  • Plastic spacer beads that are four to six millimeters in diameter.
  • Brad's Cut Plug using their Blue Magic pattern.
  • And a stainless steel ball bearing snap swivel.
RIGGING STEPS
To rig a Brad's Cut Plug the Scent Striker way, follow these steps:
  1. Attach the treble hook to the leader's end using your favorite terminal tackle cinch knot.
  2. We demonstrate a "modified Albright" (not 100% sure I have the name right) type cinch knot picked up long ago that works well.
  3. Slide onto your leader the fluorescent chartreuse Scent Striker Originals.
  4. Slide onto your leader the five or six plastic spacer beads.
  5. String the leader tip through the tail chamber, mid-section chamber, and the gill-plate hole on the back of the Brad's Cut Plug.
  6. Push your leader through the gill-plate hole until it pops out of the top of the Brad's Cut Plug bevel.
  7. Pull your leader through until the Brad's Cut Plug settles down by your spacer beads.
  8. Observe the space at the Brad's Cut Plug's tail end to determine if it rests just above the top Scent Striker.
  9. Add or subtract spacer beads as needed to ensure there is a small gap between the tail and the topmost Scent Striker.
  10. Align the bottom of your treble hook at the zero mark of a yardstick, and stretch your leader along its measurement markings.
  11. Place a reference point on your leader at the thirty-six-inch mark using a magic marker.
  12. Tie the ball bearing snap swivel onto the leader using your favorite terminal tackle cinch knot at the thirty-six-inch reference point.
  13. Trim off your tag ends at the terminal hook, and the ball bearing snap swivel.
Good Job, the rig is finished!
OUT ON THE WATER
When you are ready to fish your Scent Striker Brad's Cut Plug rig, follow these steps to add fish attractant:
  • Pull the Cut Plug and spacer beads up the leader toward the ballbearing swivel to expose the Scent Striker Originals.
  • Place your Scent Striker Originals in a small pool of DBS Striker Formula. A small plastic container works great for holding your DBS fish attractant.
  • Work the DBS Striker Formula into the Scent Strikers' fibers. A popsicle stick works great for this step.
  • Slide the Brad's Cut Plug and spacer beads down next to the Scent Strikers and hook.
  • Clip your rig onto your favorite flasher or dodger.
  • Overboard it goes!
