For starters, the Scent Striker hoochie skirt rig is an excellent salmon-catching presentation that every fishing enthusiast should have in their arsenal. But, it’s even better when adding in Scent Striker Originals to lay down a fish-biting scent trail. So, to tie this rig follow these steps.
MATERIALS LIST
The materials list for the Scent Striker hoochie rig is six items. They are:
- Forty-pound fluorocarbon monofilament leader.
- Two 6/0 Octopus-style hooks.
- Scent Striker Originals, your color choice.
- Spacer beads that are eight to ten millimeters, two each.
- A four-and-a-half-inch squid skirt.
- A roller-bearing stainless steel snap swivel.
RIGGING STEPS
To rig a hoochie skirt the Scent Striker way, follow these steps:
- Use an egg-loop snell knot to secure a 6/0 Octopus-style hook to the end of the leader.
- Next, snell on the second Octopus-style hook using the same egg-loop knot. Space the two hooks apart, so there is a ¾” to 1” between the terminal hook’s eye and the second hook’s bend.
- Similarly, slide onto the line two Scent Striker Originals.
- After that, slide onto the line two 8-10mm spacer beads.
- Turn the hoochie skirt and head inside out about halfway. Do not turn the skirt and head fully inside out. This step turns the skirt’s tentacle out of the way. It exposes the inside of the hoochie’s head so that the 8-10 mm bead is easily inserted into the head cavity.
- Next, moisten the 8-10 mm bead with a bit of saliva and insert it into the inside of the hoochie head.
- Then pull the hoochie head and bead assembly down toward the hooks.
- Tie on the stainless steel snap swivel with your favorite monofilament cinch knot so that the entire bait rig (terminal hook to snap swivel) is between 24” to 36”. The shorter the overall length of the hoochie rig, the more action a flasher or dodger imparts to the hoochie skirt and Scent Striker assembly.
OUT ON THE WATER
Then when you are ready to fish your Scent Striker hoochie rig follow these steps to add fish attractant:
- Pull the hoochie skirt and spacer beads up the leader toward the ball-bearing swivel to expose the Scent Striker Originals.
- Place your Scent Striker Originals in a small pool of DBS Striker Formula. A small plastic container works great for holding your DBS fish attractant.
- Work the DBS Striker Formula into the Scent Strikers’ fibers. A popsicle stick works great for this step.
- Slide the hoochie skirt down over the Scent Strikers and hook.
- Clip your rig onto your favorite flasher or dodger.
- Finally, overboard it goes!
Lastly, add scent, and catch fish!
